Couple of weekends without a Drive can easily make me bored and restless so i decided to go for a day trip . Vani Vilasa Sagara Dam was a place that wanted to venture for a long time but was just not happening. Plan was very simple, ride to the dam, explore the place and return home by noon. i filled the fuel to Skoda rapid in sahakarnagar, also i did some quick essentials packing for the drive like the camera.

Sunday morning around *7 am i started from our home in sahakarnagar, reached Tumkur (paid a toll of Rs 48). The weather was perfect for an early morning drive with cool breeze . Though it was getting cold initially but as soon as the Sun started peeping out from the clouds it became quite pleasant. However, for some reason, traffic was very less on Bangalore Pune highway . Covering a distance of 60 kms, around 8am we stopped by at a restaurant near tumkur the place was called Thatte Idli at Pavithra Idli Hotel, Kyathasandra, Tumkur Road (https://eatitneat.wordpress.com/2014/07/23/thatte-idly-at-pavithra-idli-hotel-kyathasandra-tumkur-road/). Parked my car just to see that the place was too crowded and the restaurant is serving just idly, puri and tea/coffee. After some thinking i decided to stick to this place and quickly have breakfast . Ordered idly and tea. Idly was just delicious.

i reached vani vilas sagar around 11 am via hiriyur

I was My first time at this place and I was sure without a doubt i just loved this place .The dam was built pre-independence and is still considered to be an engineering marvel. It acts as the source of water for irrigation and other purposes for the villages nearby. This dam was initiated by queen (then widow) of Mysore, who named the Dam after her youngest daughter. The queen had to pledge her jewels in order to ensure the competition of the dam.
Coming to our visit, it was actually fairly simple. I walked across the bund to the other side admiring the windmills atop the mountain and the tranquil waters. I climbed up and viewed the place for good 15-20mins taking in the beauty that stood before our eyes. The crowd was decent even on a Sunday.
i reached around Bangalore around 4 pm sahakarnagar it was a nice one day trip!!!
